Kathmandu: In a significant political development, all eight ministers representing the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist) (CPN-UML) in the coalition government led by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal have resigned en masse. The ministers submitted their resignations to Prime Minister Dahal on wednesday.

This mass resignation follows instructions from CPN-UML Chairperson KP Sharma Oli, who directed the ministers to step down. On Tuesday, a secretariat meeting chaired by Oli urged Prime Minister Dahal to resign within 24 hours to facilitate the formation of a new government.

After Prime Minister Dahal did not resign within the stipulated deadline, the UML ministers collectively handed over their resignations this afternoon. Additionally, Oli sent a letter to Prime Minister Dahal withdrawing his party's support for the government. In the letter, Oli stated that the move to form a new government was aimed at ensuring political stability through the establishment of a government of national consensus.

This mass resignation underscores the ongoing political tensions and shifting alliances within Nepal's government. The decision by the UML ministers to resign highlights the party's strategic efforts to reshape the political landscape and push for a new consensus government. The resignation of these ministers is expected to have significant implications for the current coalition government and the overall political stability of the country.
